How DRX 9000 (Decompression Therapy) Saved My Life!…
Prior to New Year’s Eve 2003, I lived an active lifestyle. I ran 12-15 miles a week. I enjoyed swimming, jet-skiing and would try any activity at least once. I divided my time between taking care of my family and my career as a dental hygienist. I had a few pains here and there, but nothing a little ibuprofen couldn’t handle. Then I began having constant pain in my left leg and hip. December 31st was the day my life changed forever. Upon making the bed that morning something shifted in the hip/back region. The pain brought me to my knees. I couldn’t sit, stand or sleep without constant pain.
After the first MRI, the physician told me there was degeneration and bulging discs, just a sign of age. As the pain continued to get worse, I was referred to a specialist who sent me to physical therapy. The physical therapy only compounded the muscle spasms and again gave no relief. My next option was injections. I refused to treat the pain with injections until I could get a diagnosis of the problem. This is when I decided to react myself by taking mega doses of ibuprofen, stretching the tight muscles and running until the endorphins kicked in and the pain was gone for an hour or two. The pain persisted and sleep deprivation increased. I would come home from work and spend the entire night lying on the floor to get the spasms to go away. Finally, after losing my balance and falling down the attic stairs I realized my life as a functioning human being was over unless I found out what was wrong with my body.
I am a true believer that the human body has the ability to heal itself, given the right set of circumstances. I decided to find help through Chiropractic medicine. The first Chiropractor I visited help reduce a great deal of muscular dysfunctions, but I never could hold an adjustment for more than 48hours. Nine months of hope was turning into frustration. I wanted to know why it wasn’t completely going away. The area in my hip/back was still there and painful. It was time for a second opinion. That’s when Dr. Derrick entered my life.
Dr. Derrick was up front and honest with me. I received site-specific adjustments that really helped reduce the pain. I finally reached a point during treatment when I could make it through a week between adjustments, but the pain kept coming back. The second MRI confirmed my worse fear. There was a BIG problem between L5-S1. My options were now limited to pain management eventually leading to surgery or spinal decompression therapy. In my situation, the vitality of that disc was uncertain.
I researched the DRX 9000 on the internet by checking out the testimonials and studies. I wasn’t sure if it would work in my case. It has now been 2 1/2 years since my accident. I had met more people in those last couple years that have had back surgery and still have pain. I decided that since I finally had a diagnosis and another non-surgical option, I would give it a try. For me the price for treatment was less than having to permanently give up the income from my career.
The first couple of treatments were to get accustomed to the machine. The third visit is when my husband noticed I looked taller. I felt taller too! Through the course of treatment, I had good days, better days and great days. There has been a great deal of muscle fatigue that is improving daily without the need for ibuprofen. I received a core strengthening exercise routine that has made me feel stronger than I have in years. The pain in the hip is gone. The pain radiating through the leg is gone. I can’t believe how good I feel. Dr. Derrick even told me I could start running again!
Why do I say the DRX 9000 (decompression therapy) saved my life? Because after I injured myself, my quality of life declined. I avoided family outings. I spent almost every weekend on my back crying. I stopped doing the things I enjoyed doing. I was in chronic pain and that was what my mind focused on. I didnt want to live the way I was anymore, but then there was hope! My hope came then the DRX 9000 arrived at McKinney Chiropractic. The machine saved my life because it has given me back a quality of life that I lost on December 31, 2003. Thank you Dr. Derrick!
